hello my baddies! i finally wrote a pretty good story and im excited to share it with you guys <3

i wrote this in like one day so sorry for it being short

UMBRELLA ACADEMY SPOILERS -all seasons but mostly s4 bc its just the scene at the beginning of s4 e4

teen klaus hargreeves x number 8 reader (they dont have a strong romantic relationship but its there)

reader is 16 or 17 so anyone can read !

warnings: death (from guns) so theres blood mentioned, one bad word, i call reginald just reginald bc i cant even write him as a father 💀

17 years being Number 8 in the Umbrella Academy and all the missions are the same thing. We get sent on the mission, defeat some bad guys and everyone cheers for us. Everyone is tired of it but Reginald won't give us a break.

Now it's just another mission and everyone is running around trying to get ready. Luther is being the little suck up to dad and attempting to hype everyone up.

I'm trying to pull a clearly-drunk Klaus out of the empty bathtub. "Are you kidding me? You just got back from rehab!"

"I'm California sober, y/n!" he remarks, slurring his words. This boy needs serious help, but I still love him deep down.

After our mission briefing, we all get in a jet to go to the old warehouse. We're supposed to locate and destroy a deadly weapon stored in shipping container. Something just feels so off to me. Perhaps it was from how suspicious Reginald sounded when he told us to not open the container. I hold tightly onto Klaus' hand the whole flight there.

When we get there, I instantly get the bad feeling again. We sneak inside and I'm staying closely in between Klaus and Allison. We finally come across the large, white container and Ben insists that he is able to handle the job.

"Go- I got this," Ben whispers assuringly.

"Okay, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Y/n, you're with me. Let's go," instructs Luther.

We follow him to distract some lurking bad guys until we hear what sounds like Ben talking to someone. The group runs back to the container and we see him looking into the giant tank.

Luther is the first to ask the obvious, "Ben! What the hell are you doing?"

"There's someone in here! We have to get her out," he whisper-yells back.

"That wasn't part of the plan."

"So what? You're gonna blow up an innocent girl?"

"But dad said-"

"I don't give a fuck what dad said! We need to help her."

"Ben, wait!" Luther tried arguing back, but knew there wasn't stopping him so he had to call for backup. Through his earpiece, Luther called Reginald. "Dad, we got a bit of a problem."

Ben reaches into the tank, pulling the girl out. After they both climb down and onto the floor, I am able to see who it is. It's a young who has long dark messy hair in a ponytail and is wearing a giant white dress.

"Okay, let's go. Ben," I say to try to get us to leave.

But right as the two make full eye contact, a shot is heard. Ben falls to the ground. Another. The girl in the white dress drops down next to him.

Behind the two was Reginald, holding a small shotgun. "I told you not to open the container," he scolded.

I stare in horror, Klaus wrapping an arm around my shoulder and his other hand covering his mouth in shock. I don't even need to look over to know that Diego, Allison, and Luther had our same reactions.

He wouldn't- right? Right...?

"Ben..." I whisper quietly, my voice shaky, Klaus hugging me tighter.

The two lie dead on the floor. The young girl's white dress slowly getting stained dark red from the blood spreading.

my scattershot thoughts about the gnosia anime under the cut (spoilers for the game ahead)

ok so i've been braining for like a day about "how would you even turn gnosia into a tv show?" because the story is so intrinsically tied to the gameplay loop, there are 4th wall breaks you cant really translate into an anime, the main character basically is not a character at all because its just the player, etc.

and honestly i feel like its not as big of a jump as it sounds? like it is definitely possible to translate this to a show. i'm still not setting my expectations *too* too high because everything has the potential to be fumbled, but i think its very possible to make a short anime made up largely of one-episode-long games of werewolf.

and yes i absolutely do not believe this will be longer than like 12-ish episodes because the game really doesnt demand longer than that. the plot of the game apart from the gameplay is a good 70-80% character tableu. i wouldnt be surprised if this show favored a more plot-focused story which is more narrowly focused on learning about/breaking out of the time loop.

this means that we should probably prepare for a lot of things getting cut for time. i really doubt theyll cut any entire characters, but they'll probably cut any scenes that are purely about filling out the silver key. id imagine they cut most if not all of raqio's quizzes and several of the scenes that give the player a new skill. this might be a hot take but i also kinda wouldnt be surprised if they cut the a/c follower role entirely, since even though its a cool bit of worldbuilding its the only role that doesnt really further either a character arc or the timeloop plotline

on the other hand, i wouldnt be surprised if they fleshed out some stuff more, like they explained more about yuriko, maybe some more about jonas and why he's still alive after 1000 years, and a bit more setup for manan. maybe at least a shot of her in a flashback to give her a design. not saying i'd want that per se but i wouldnt be surprised. in that vein i kinda hope remnan has more to do? i have complicated feelings about his role in the game and part of me wishes he got to play a bigger role in the ending? idk i could make an entire seperate post about remnan if i wanted

finally (for now) the new main character! there is no way in hell the shot at the end of the trailer isnt of their stand-in for the player character. and thank god its not just a generic anime boy. my pipe dream is that this character is also nonbinary, here's hoping! as far as design goes i'm interested in seeing the ramifications of designing a new character to be animated next to a bunch of pre-existing characters with very over-the-top designs which need to be simplified for animation (you'll notice in the poster that setsu's jacket has none of its gradients and the inside is no longer holographic, their eyes are just red with no cyan, etc). and yes i'm absolutely gonna talk more about the artstyle/animation when we get to see more of it. but personality-wise theres a lot of directions you could go with this character. i kinda get the feeling theyre gonna be at least a bit generic but i have no idea with what theyve given us so far. just gonna wait for more information and see

Requisite grouch about the representation of embroidery, particularly in Bridgerton. Season 3, Im just getting to. So I get the point of this little scene is "Eloise is not interested in conventional feminine topics and doesnt fit in with her peers, and we are doing this by showing disdain for embroidery" and I fully get that in the cultural consciousness embroidery is this frivolous nonsense that rich women did to keep busy and isnt worth anything.

But two things. One, as Ive said before, the Bridgerton costuming is full of embroidery, of the kind that has to be machine made. And Im not gonna talk about historical accuracy because I consider the costuming part of the shows premise ie something you just have to accept to enjoy the show because its central. Like you cant enjoy Dungeon Meshi if you have to know how its possible for magic and dungeons to exist, you just have to accept that its part of the setting.

So either the seamstress has a few machines shes using for the lavish embroidery or her cloth is extravagantly expensive beyond all reason. LIke even more than youre already thinking.

And these women are surrounded by it, making their trade with it, its literally built into their fashion. So scorn for it makes zero sense. Second, in this scene in particular at the ball. The dialogue goes, almost exactly:

"Well the leaf stitch is tried and true"

[I think Eloise says something]

"Then theres the running stitch, the straight stitch, the fern stitch, the French knot -"

"What's your favourite stitch Eloise?"

This is not how people talk about embroidery! Its not exciting because of the stitches that exist, its exciting for how you use the stitches and what shapes and textures you can make, and how you manipulate the thread and fabric to create all kinds of interesting effects and patterns. And I fully understand that someone can be bored by that, its not for everyone. Im just mad that their "this is a normal conversation about embroidery" is listing stitching and asking someone their favourite. They could have done something like

"I just learned a new stitch, its called the split stitch, and it has this really cool effect that makes the thread look like its knitted, so Im embroidering my dog with this technique to really capture his fur, and im using French knots for his little beady eyes, and then Im gonna use the split stitch and this gorgeous russet floss to make him the coziest little sweater!"

"Oh my god I do not want to hear another thing about your thread dog and its fake thready sweater."

Thats like, a real conversation someone might have that someone else could find boring, and its respectful - and realistic - to the hobby and craft and art of embroidery! It sounds like something a human might say. Not "here are some stitch names, wait why are you being rude?". Its like imitating a conversation about someones dog like "and he has paws and his paws have nails and then he has knees and then he has two eyes and a tail" thats not how people talk about dogs! you might see "his tail is so waggy, and his eyes are so soulful, and his little feet are the cutest thing, let me tell you a story -". We couldve had a story about an embroidery mishap, that could be funny.

but no we must hold onto old outdated and sexist ideas about things and disdain them for no good reason while our costume department is embroidering everything because lets not examine any of our attitudes about anything!

The worst was still the dressmaker last season complaining about ladies and their embroidery MAAM THATS LITERALLY YOUR JOB. Ok now I can go back to watching for the pretties. And I very much admire Colin's big swooshy coat.

Im also trying to work out if Cressida is sapphic. Eloise and Pen absolutely have "middle grade sapphic friends have strangely intense friendship and then huge strangely intense breakup fight," and looks like Pen is bi, but Im really hoping they properly go into queer themes with Eloise and not just sign her up for a guy later. Also pretty sure the latest Bridgerton this season - Francesca? - is ace. Big ace vibes on her.

ive loved it since i first heard it in project diva x years ago, but listening to Tsumi no Namae again (with slightly higher quality headphone audio rather than my vita speakers <3 ) i didnt realize just how crazy the production choices of this song is. wait hold on lemme hashtag musicpost for a minute. im busting out the timestamps

immediate tone setting. bagpipes??? or something like that right out the gate which is wild. clock winding, gear crunching, and real human woman whispering (i think in english but ive never been able to find official lyrics of that section) as well <3 im a sucker for using human voices with synth voices i think it adds a lot of neat texture

the instrument choices lean into a fantasy musical-esque soundscape for obvious reason (the whole song is basically a little original fable or myth type story complete with trickster goddesses and breaking fate's curses etc etc) but the composition is plenty pop rock which is a fun juxtaposition im always a fan of but like SPECIFICALLY those drums that start around a minute in. im not sure what it is, the speed? how loud and hard the drums are? it works so well to give it a forward momentum while also being a bit uncanny. maybe im just imagining how tired the drummers arms would be hitting at that speed and with that amount of power for this long........ but yeah it gives it this unexpected, sorta otherworldly feel, like its just a fraction of a fraction faster than you'd assume. theres like hints of clapping and stuff in there too i think? so much all together but so so so good

and speaking of how tired those drummers arms would be, i do love that this song is six and a half minutes, i love stuff over 5 minutes like YES i am going to waste SO MUCH TIME staring into space and listening really hard (i like to listen to songs on loop <3 half an hour is gonna go away in just a few plays) i love love love love love it

ive got to say i ended up liking the book by the end but dear God it was an experience. the characters act like how middle school me thought high-schoolers act, all high-school musical click-y and such. i constantly forgot these characters are supposed to be in college because of how cringy they are. however towards the end as you get to know the characters, i personally became very endeared to them. a friend of mine describes this book as Haunting Adaline, only poorly written, so do with that as you will.

It finally cooled down this past week (it's supposed to heat up again though). I'm doing well. This is the last week of summer school. Can't wait to be done with it. But I wrote Part 4, 5, and I'm working on 6 of Most so I've been doing literature things but I should be reading more. I need less screen time hahaha. Pretty much all the foundation stories (that ive read)/ and a lot of the short stories, especially read on here written by people more knowledgeable about the source are about people who, sometimes drafted sometimes volunteered get florted regardless of if they want it or not and pretty much just, yknow give them some or more of a lobotomy (not that much as they are still usually pretty smart just enough to get a lot of specific thoughts removed) and one of the phrases i hear constantly on hdg tags is "they are inevitable" often (i assume) implying that probably everyone will be domesticated and the thing with that is, assuming that getting drafted to join the terran resistance is inevitable as well, considering that will guarentee you getting domesticated i just like couldnt? Yknow what i mean, its implyed in the extra chapters of the original that a lot of the affini are pretty similar in their goals of any terran in the war will be domesticated, and like im sorry but literally 1 i fuckin couldnt like if it was possible i wouldnt mind being friends with one but every story inevitably ends with the mc being domesticated whether they wanted it or not and pretty much removed of any and all personal choice, which dont get me wrong, with a schedule i could thrive, maybe but i would hate the loss of self expression and 2 fuck i lost my train of thought typing things Fuck. Oh wait. And if they story starts with some independent being pretty good at independance it pretty much comes down to the affini wanting that person as their floret bad enough that they force it upon them which. Like. I wouldnt mind being kidnapped, but only if i was in a place where i hated it and had no escape like usually its with xenodrugs but its also with biorythyms just like "yeahhh if you wanna be an independent but i want you to not be, too fuckin bad you will be my floret" and its just like yeah but i wanna just be able to exist without the harrassment and programming that, whether someone says "ah thats not programming" no if you give someone something to do then make them feel good, you are training that response meaning that pretty much any/everything with xenodrugs that make you happy is just programming and i realize now im just rambling bc i forgot what i was fucking gonna say and am struggling to remember

Which is what i currently have, so if i were to it would pretty much just be worse to my current actual situation where instead of just being isolated, i would be isolated (with only exceptions allowed BY the affini... which literally doesnt change my current situation), drugged to feel good about the situation and then have my personality suppressed which is literally like my creativity is literally my entire personality so having all my decisions made for me would pretty much already kill me so whats the point

Also id like to note that while writing the inital post i was suppressing suicidal thoughts so yknow wasnt thinking straight either anyway going to make this even harder to find and i havent fully researched hdg due to being too depressed to even really get out of my bes the past few days besides like on Saturdays to hopefully go out

Because honestly, truely, if i could literally just have basically star trek with pretty much infinite ethical food, slay but also if it was just like me and my like 8 neighbors (making 10 total people) i wouldnt mind, like just nature and chilling

Cause lets be honest, if you were sad in any way shape or form, even if its simply "i want to go take a 5 hour walk in a real forest" the affini would probably just be like "oh petal dont be sad" and inject you with (i can never remember the class names but i know what they do so) what is essential dopamine/serotonin, and youre pretty much removed of any individuality which. Suuucks. Especially for someone like myself who pretty much never had an opportunity to fully express myself.

Now dont get me wrong i LOVE identity death BUT i wouldnt wanna be erased, instead id rather just be trapped into a paradise of my own making in my mind. Like. No lets say this scenario did happen, if the affini in charge of me pretty much told my replacement if any trauma was effecting that paradise to tell them and theyd deal with it, that would be even better bc i think i do have trauma considering every fictional character I've ever made that i would use another character that represented me to talk to, ""my"" ""friends"" (the fictional characters) always resent ""me"" (the character that represents me) in some way always using an annoyed tone

So yknow if i were to just exist as essentially a repressed thing in the back of my mind but i have my own little world i get to interact with back there while physical me is completely otherwise braindead from the affini, then i wouldnt mind, but yeah as it stands, uhh yeah i dont like 24/7 bdsm relationships, i want there to be a seperation between sexual me and normal me, especially since there already is a massive divide in that form, only really noticeable in private vs public and edged vs finished

And otherwise if i was in the hdg world and didnt have that option, you know the moment i was left alone after being captured by an affini and they didnt say that theyd do that, id be dead on the floor, probably crying as i die bc i wouldnt know a very good way to die, bc presumably humanity would have found a cure to diabetes by then, i mean considering it might happen by 2026 uhh i could also just inject myself with a lethal amount of insulin and go peacefully although probably panicked, otherwise, assuming theres no non oxygen, non carbon dioxide gas on the ship, yeah i would probably die a pretty painful yet pretty fast death, crying the whole way there bc fuck if i have to chose to basically watch myself lose myself, death, or trapped in my own mind but i dont know i am i would take option 3... unless thats unavailable, then i would take option 2
